| The
photos on this page depict a Black Star barrel in their revolutionary 700 Stainless Steel.
The barrel is being chambered in 22-250 Ack. Imp.. The pictures (1-4 viewed from
top to bottom) show a black reference marker on the barrel face at 3,12,9, and 6
oclock. Total runout is 8/10ths of 1/10,000 (or 80 millionths). This is the level of
precision you receive when I setup to chamber your barrel.
The properties of the new 700 S.S. barrels from Black Star were such that the steel was
supposedly too tough for some to machine. (see Precision Shooting, November, 1997). I
developed a three-part cutting fluid, reamer feed rate with a flushing system and the
capability to chamber 700 S.S. with a high-speed steel reamer (as was done with the barrel
pictured). Yes, it takes longer. You must have quality tooling, high tech cutting fluids
and most importantly, be a machinist. I welcome all barrels for chambering. If you prefer
a particular barrel manufacturer and material, you got it.
